security=user :(

I don't seem to be having a great deal of luck getting Samba to work
with security=user.

No matter what client I use (including smbclient), the server claims
that I'm giving an invalid username/passwd pair. I don't get this
problem with security=share. No doubt I've done something silly, but I
can't work out what :(

Here is my smb.conf and a copy of the relevant section of samba.log.
Any help/suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks.
