do an altavista search, and also check the samba digest archives.  NISGINA
makes an nt workstation create local accounts on local workstations,
checking against a NIS database before doing so.

actions taken:

1) ctrl alt delete.  type in username / password
2) check username / password against NIS database.
3) check whether a local workstation account exists or not.  if it
doesn't, create one
4) allow user to log in under the local (possibly just created)
workstation user account.

so, it works, but only after a fashion.
