Smbmount and Irix.

I am new to the list so I apologize if this question is old territory.

I am looking for a resource that will explain how to use smbmount with
IRIX.
As I understand it smbmount is only supported with Linux.  Can I mount
an
NT share onto the IRIX filetree with samba?  Or do I need a NFS / SMB
conversion program that converts SMB to NFS and mount the NT shares
as NFS volumes on the IRIX side.

The same question applies to Solaris 2.6 and 2.7 systems.
