SAMBA digest 1779

When the world was young, samba at samba.anu.edu.au carved some runes 
like this:

You need to re-compile samba to use encrypted passwords (if you 
want to use them).  Otherwise, there's a reg-key to enable clear 
text passwords.  See the samba docs (encryption.txt, etc).  I know 
the reg-key works with win95; can anyone else confirm it works with 
win98?
