Samba is whatever you want it to be.  You can make it do long or short
names - you can even work on its case insensitivity if you don't want it
to be case sensitive.

Basically, you should have no trouble using Unix and Win95 and NT with
Samba.  That's what it's made for and most of us think it works very well.
