in fact, if anyone wants to mount SMB drives on their unix system, why 
don't you contact your OS vendor, and ask them if they will provide an 
API in order to port smbfs or rumba to their system.

if they won't provide an API, then you could always ask them for
sufficient source code to complete the job, instead. 

[one of SCO's o/ses - i forget which - has an smb client.  linux has 
smbfs, now available as part of the kernel].
