There is a light at the end of the tunnel--it works now ;)

I dub thee Luke Kenneth Quick-Reply Leighton.

The problem was not our fault, really, as the ACTUAL
samba-1.9.18alpha3/docs/NTDOMAIN.TXT, dated 0ct 22 1997 says:

    2) carry out the following unix commands:

	    touch /tmp/netlogon
	    touch /tmp/srvsvc
	    chmod 666 /tmp/netlogon
	    chmod 666 /tmp/srvsvc

Touching /tmp/NETLOGON and /tmp/lsarpc seemed to do the trick.
We got "Welcome to the NITWIT domain."

I suspected we were missing a pipe there, though I would have
felt cooler if I had guessed. :) Ack, I'm turning into a l-user
and requiring external help to solve my problems... aiiiieiieieie!

Maybe this doc change should go to samba-bugs?

Thanks for the help--we'll get you more info as we have more time
to play!
