Simple upgrade problem...?

We just upgraded from 1.9.15p6 to 1.9.17p4 on Linux 1.2.13. We kept the
smb.conf file as is, but smbd seems broken.

Contents of /usr/local/samba/var/log. after smbclient -L casa:

  Added interface ip= bcast= nmask=
  11/15/97 21:18:20 loaded services
  11/15/97 21:18:20 becoming a daemon
  bind succeeded on port 139
  waiting for a connection
  ERROR smb_shm_open : mmap failed with code 22

Contents of /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf (unchanged):

     admin users = root
     hosts allow =,,, \
     log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m
     dont descend = ./proc,./dev,./etc/inet,./etc.o/inet

     comment = Home Directories
     browseable = no
     read only = no
     create mode = 0750

  ; A private directory, usable only by root. Note that root requires write
  ; access to the directory.
     comment = Admin
     path = /
     valid users = root, steve
     public = no
     writable = yes
     printable = no
Are there some subtle differences in smb.conf between the versions?
Running smbd.old -D and nmbd.old -D works fine, as before.

Any suggestions are appreciated...
