are the wfwg machines using a WINS server?


do you have an NT server around?

can you send a packet trace (the smb-aware version of tcpdump: tcpdump -n -s 
1500 -w dump; run, press ctrl-c, then: tcpdump -n -s 1500 -r dump > 
dump.txt)
