Hello,
In SAMBA digest 1395 I have written about our problems with PC's from differet subnet classes.
Now I will point out this problem in more detail:
I have now installed Samba 1.9.17alpha5 with the global-section in smb.conf:
[global]
   hosts allow = 193.174.234., 192.124.248., 193.174.235., 141.35.191.122
   workgroup = IMBNET
   printing = SYSV
   printcap name = /etc/printcap
   load printers = yes
   passwd program = /usr/bin/yppasswd
   share modes = yes
   browseable = yes
   wins support = yes

The samba-Server (name: 'duerer' is in the subnet 192.124.248 and has the OS IRIX 5.3)

One PC with Windows95 (name: 'nemo') was configured one times with the IP-Number
192.124.248.147 and in the other case the same 'nemo' had the number 193.174.234.52
in the other subnet. In both cases (and also in cases of further PC's with Windows95) the
samba-services are correct available, as you can see from the entries in the log.smb file:

*************
08/25/97 11:01:58 nemo (192.124.248.147) connect to service gmueller as user gmuell
er (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12195)
08/25/97 11:02:01 nemo (192.124.248.147) connect to service edgar as user gmueller
(uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12195)
08/25/97 11:02:04 nemo (192.124.248.147) connect to service homespc as user gmuelle
r (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12195)
08/25/97 11:02:05 nemo (192.124.248.147) connect to service program as user gmuelle
r (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12195)
**************
08/25/97 15:27:05 nemo (193.174.234.52) connect to service gmueller as user gmuelle
r (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 13512)
08/25/97 15:27:09 nemo (193.174.234.52) connect to service edgar as user gmueller (
uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 13512)
08/25/97 15:27:14 nemo (193.174.234.52) connect to service homespc as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 13512)
08/25/97 15:27:15 nemo (193.174.234.52) connect to service program as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 13512)
08/25/97 15:27:27 nemo (193.174.234.52) connect to service jukebox as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 13512)
*************

An other PC with WinNT 4.0 (Workstation) name: 'ente' was configured one times with the
IP-Number 192.124.248.51 and in the other case the same 'ente' had the number 193.174.234.52.
In the first case all services are available, as you can see:

************
08/25/97 12:37:48 ente (192.124.248.51) connect to service program as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12963)
08/25/97 12:37:49 ente (192.124.248.51) connect to service homespc as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12963)
08/25/97 12:37:50 ente (192.124.248.51) connect to service jukebox as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12963)
08/25/97 12:37:51 ente (192.124.248.51) connect to service Medl_82 as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12963)
08/25/97 12:37:52 ente (192.124.248.51) connect to service gmueller as user gmuelle
r (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12963)
08/25/97 12:37:53 ente (192.124.248.51) connect to service scratch as user gmueller
 (uid=1000,gid=20) (pid 12963)

With the IP-number of the other subnet-class you can see the following registration in the
log.smb-file:
************
08/25/97 12:07:28 ente (193.174.234.52) connect to service gmueller as user gmueller
(uid=1293,gid=20) (pid 12814)
08/25/97 12:15:25 ente (193.174.234.52) closed connection to service gmueller
************
On the 'ente'-site the command - net view \\duerer
gives the "system error 53 - network access not allowed".
All other PC with WinNT4.0 in the subnet 193.174.234. can't use the samba-services too.

Thanks in advance,
Gerhard M.
