Problem with passwords

I am having a problem with samba and windows 95 not working with passwords
that do work from unix systems, smb unix client, and mac clients. The
samba server is running on a solaris 2.5.1 box running NIS+ for
authentication. The problem is that all the autogenerated passwords that
we created for our new students do not work with samba and win95. 
Does anyone have a clue what the problem is?
