Intermittent Share Connection Problems

I have a process trying to connect to SAMBA (v1.1-1) on AXP VMS 8.3, every
few minutes. At various times through the day, it fails to access the share.

Looking at the log files (below), I can see a
'NT_STATUS_DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_NOT_FOUND' error that seems to coincide with the
connection failures.

I queried this with our Windows Admins, and they said, "These timings
coincide with the forced elections for the master browser between the domain
controllers.  The master browser service is stopped on the Domain Controller
momentarily although authentication across all of the servers continues
successfully for all of the Windows PCs and Servers."

Is there any way I can cache the authentication information within SAMBA, so
that it's not continually going off to the DC for every access?

I'd rather not revert back to local authentication, but need to get this
resolved.
