One of the things that I have noticed is that the 2.2.8 config.h is 
showing HAVE_MMAP is enabled.  Unless something else is done, this 
bypasses the stm_read module which handles the conversion from VFC to 
stream.  This could be the cause of the corruption, but until I get to 
the point of doing some testing, I do not know for sure.

If you can rebuild Samba with out the HAVE_MMAP defined, it may fix the 
issue.

If you reference the source OpenVMS Porting Library used with Mozilla, 
they have a wrapper on the MMAP code so that they simulate it for 
non-stream or binary files.

Currently it is probably the most useful method for me to track the 
issues that are important.

I have entered bug report as BUG 1816.

I probably will not be able to address this issue for a while, and I 
will be converting to use a VFS module first, as it simplifies the debug 
path.
