I would consider that a bug.  Now I wonder if 2.0.6 / Frontport could be 
vulnerable to that.

The smbpasswd file is needed to contain the encrytped NT and Lanman 
passwords.

I do not know about the 2.2.7, but in the previous versions, the 
usernames must also exist in the SYSUAF.  In any case there must be a 
way to map the username from the SAMBA client to a host account.

It may be possible to modify the OpenVMS version of the SMBPASSWD 
program to update the OpenVMS password at the same time.

With 7.3-1, the ACME routines are now documented, and that may also 
allow better integration.  I have not looked at them closely, but they 
may allow calling the smbpasswd routines to update the smbpasswd when 
the user updates their OpenVMS password.
