If you are using 2.0.3, you must enable clear text password on the Windows
client. There are many sites that can show you how to do this.

http://www.google.com/search?q=enable+clear+text+passwords

Perhaps you could go to SaMBa 2.0.6, and use the smbpasswd program so you
could use authentication based on the user with encryption. The password of
the user on VMS is not as important as they be in the smb database on 2.0.6.

"... but i'll explain briefly the scenario.

A. SMB 'security = user' has been configured for my VMS server named
'axptoa'. This VMS server is running VMS v7.2-2, TCPIP services v5.1 and
Samba v2.0.3

C. the vms user 'toakley' exists with a password of 123456 and a valid
hime directory.
