You should enable smbd
$ ucx enable service smbd

Add this line in SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM after
@SYS$STARTUP:SAMBA_STARTUP

although

$ ucx enable service config smbd

should add enable smbd whenever ucx is started, but it didn't work for me,
so I had to enter it in startup file.

Subject: error connecting to 10.XXX.XXX.XXX:139 (connection refused )

Hello,

Please forgive me if this is a dum question. I have installed version 2.0.3
on an alpha running VMS v7.1

I have run the testparm and this says my smb.conf is ok so I moved to the
next step in the samba documentation:

I am using the client in samba_root:[bin.alpha]smbclient

smbclient "-L" alf

I get:

Added interface ip=10.XXX.XXX.XXX bcast=10.255.255.255 nmask=255.0.0.0
Got a positive name query response from 10.XXX.XXX.XXX ( 10.XXX.XXX.XXX )
error connecting to 10.XXX.XXX.XXX:139 (connection refused )
Connection to alf failed.

When I look at UCX for port 139 I get

UCX> sho serv /port=139

Service Port Proto Process Address State

SMBD                 139  TCP      SMBD             0.0.0.0
Disabled

Why is the connection being refused? Have I got a security issue or is a
sevice I need not running?

Regards

Peter
