How to Install SAMBA Server on VAX

First, to run *any* program (image) on VMS with command line
parameters, you have to define a symbol like this :

$ UNZIP :== $DEV:[DIR]UNZIPVAX

where DEV and DIR is where you have put the UNZIPVAX.EXE file.

And then just do :

$ UNZIP SAMBA

If you unzip on a PC and then move the files to VMS via
FTP (in bin mode), all files will have 512 byte records,
which will be wrong for most VMS files. It is possible
to correct this, but it is *MUCH* easier to unzip directly
on the VMS system. This is also the reason why your
LINK command gives an error.

Best Regards

Subject: How to Install SAMBA Server on VAX

Hi,

I am very new to VAX therefore I have following questions, which may be
silly to you guys.

First of all I want to map my VAXstation 4000 drive which is running OpenVMS
VAX 6.2, to Windows 98/2000. I downloaded SAMBA 2.0.3 Binary Package for VAX
along with C RTL from US FTP, also UNZIPVAX.exe file.

Now I couldn't unzip SAMBA on VAX because when I give command
$run unzipvax samba.zip
it gave this message
%DCL-W-MAXPARM, too many parameters - reenter command with fewer parameters
\SAMBA\
so instead I unzipped all files on Win98 using WinZip and uploaded it on VAX
via FTP to SAMBA folder in root directory. also I unzipped C RTL file and
uploaded decc_crtl.exe_vax file to SAMBA folder.

I only have license of Fortran at VAX and can't compile C programs.

Now when I run @link I get message
%RMS-W-RTB, 512 byte record too large for user's buffer

Here are my questions:
1) Did the steps I follow are correct?
2) How can I unzip SAMBA files on VAX, I know its a straightforward
procedure, I have done it many times on my PC using PKUNZIP, but why it is
not working on VAX?
3) How to link it?

I'll be really grateful if someone can answer this, or if there is any
posting on Web regarding this.

Thanks

Naveed
