In Vernor Vinge's wonderful SciFi novel "A Deepness in the Sky"
(set over 10,000+ years from now) there is a career of "Programmer
Acheologist" whose job it was to dig up old code and make it
useful on "modern" systems :-).

Plus in the book they still use unix time_t (now 64-bit :-),
but they think it dates from when man first landed on the
moon, as they've lost quite a few details of "ancient" times :-).
