Upgraded to 4.8 - forced to use winbindd - retro how to missing?

It seems I must un-configure something to get that legacy behavior again.
This was working in 4.7.y:

realm = AMERICAS.X.INFO
workgroup = AMERICAS
security = ADS
idmap config * : range = 4000-4999
interfaces = lo ens160
preferred master = No
local master = No
domain master = No
ldap ssl = no
hide dot files = No
log file = /var/log/samba/log.smbd.%a
log level = 2
acl allow execute always = Yes
unix extensions = No
wide links = Yes
server signing = required
client signing = required
