G'Day Bjoern,

Did you ever make any progress on this?  I would like to get something
in to address this use case, either as part of your work our Joe's
patches cut back down to the minimum.  

I realise this is picking up things that were done before Christmas,
but I was hoping to be reviewing some combination of your patches and
Joe's work. 

Any suggestions on how we can proceed most welcome.
