What changed for 4.8?

Did you come to a conclusion as to what was breaking everything?  

I can't see much important the diff between
0817edde0bbdfff57d2e9080a99045b2769e59bf from your old autobuild (which
failed a lot on netlogon cldap) and master.

The only relevant change I can see was
9b423fe804dc6a451629d30b73d72635d3598dd4 (winbindd: set routing_domain
when enumerating trusts) and dropping Garming's new tests for "" logins
both of which don't seem directly related.
