I'm sure it supports it and if not you can simply recompress it with gzip.

Maybe not for you, but I have an asymmetric DSL connection and uploading 18 vs 
12 MB safes me time! Also this is a bad argument, why should I optimize my 
code, CPUs are fast enough. Sorry, but traffic, storage and CPU time matters!

I don't really see real benefit doing that.
