Couldn't we just add a more comprehensive felx/bison version check at
configure time for this?

My vote would be to remove the generated sources. I think PIDL was
enough of a lesson in how much of a pain diverging sources can be, and
in this case the extra build dependencies would only be needed for
spotlight / WSP.
