Yeah in the long run, that might be the way to go.

But since this version of the patch seems to work
reliably for me now, we might want to bring it
upstream first and refactor later. (But we need
to fix the lock-oder issue first - see the mail
thread regarding the corresponding patch.)

Yeah, with the samba on top, it is a little more complicated.
I will also rebase my 3-node branch on top of this.
The basic book-keeping is already there.
