That might be due to the registry being blocked. smbcontrol should
be very simple and nonblocking, but it needs some info from smb.conf
unfortunately. So maybe it's time to implement reading from the registry
without messing with ctdb. The only problem there is -- we can't
guarantee we see the latest copy of the registry without asking the
cluster. However, smbcontrol mainly needs the location of the datagram
sockets (or the messages.tdb for pre-4.2), and this information should
be current without cluster currency.
