It applies cleanly to 4.2 - v4-2-test was actually what I
was developing against until the last moment...

I'll read up on submitting a bug report for you to review. Though
as it's quite large and doesn't currently affect anything internal
to Samba I'm not sure it's worthy, even though it would be very
useful.
