Recommended method to backup Samba4 Shares with Permissions

In the past I've been using rsync with -a option over NFS but now with ACLs
it seems that's not going to preserve the permissions. Is there a bast
method to backup my shares? Preferably something like rsync that just
copies the changes.

I saw a suggestion for using tar which supports xattr and acls but due to
the size and backup window, sending a full tarball backup across isn't
reasonable.
