samba-tool create user and --rfc2307-from-nss

Hi, Does anybody know why 'samba-tool user create' has the option 
'--rfc2307-from-nss' ?

 From my reading, this can be used to create a domain user from a local 
Unix user, does anybody know if it has ever been used ?

I would have thought that a better way of upgrading was by using 
classic-upgrade.

Would anybody object if I proposed a patch to remove this option
