No. id mapping should still work, because winbindd is running
and smbd is talking to it. What does not work is nss for the
domain users, and smbd does rely on that.

Well, as I detailed in my other mail, there are things that
must fail. Apparently, these are not so severe that it
shows up in everyday use, but some things must be failing.
