Reduce maintenance releases?

Hi,

I would like to reduce the number of maintenance releases.
What about
-shipping current stable [1] releases approximately every 6 weeks and
-shipping maintenance [2] releases approximately every 12 weeks (always a few
 days after the stable release)?

Opinions?
