Yes, it is unfortunate they were reverted because it wasn't hard to find
or fix, it just needed a little time.  Had Garming and I started on it
earlier in the work day we may well have avoided the whole fuss!

I would like to see them re-submitted for review (again).  Having needed
to look into them a bit more, I would like a version check added, and
perhaps some way to avoid the code duplication that initiated this (two
different connect functions).
