What should I comment on? I think we need to overhaul the
protocol to allow for a version exchange in just 4 bytes or
so. Someone (I believe Andrew B) pointed out in this thread
that when the response struct grows, we're dead anyway. So
if we need to get the correct error message in the future,
we need a new constant-length version call.
