Are we talking about the same thing?

I mean the functions smbcli_ in source4 ( like smbcli_full_connection,
smbcli_unix_chown and smbcli_rename), found in
/usr/lib/samba-4.0/{smb_cli.h, smb_cliraw.h}.

I think you mean the function found in source3/libsmb/proto.h (like
cli_getatr, cli_open, cli_rename). These are not public indeed.
