This seems to be talking about the client side of browsing.

The statements in that howto are based on a very old pre-release
version of Samba 4 (alpha11) which shipped a rewrite of smbclient. The
4.0.0 release ships with the original smbclient binary (same as the
3.x series), and supports browsing.
