xsltproc errors

On OpenIndiana I'm getting these errors as it tries to build smb.conf.5

Does anyone know what the issue might be, or (perhaps more practically)
have any ideas how to simply detect this at configure time?

xsltApplyXSLTTemplate: A potential infinite template recursion was
detected.
You can adjust xsltMaxDepth (--maxdepth) in order to raise the maximum
number of nested template calls and variables/params (currently set to
3000).
