Patch: Fix the maxfids test

Hi folks,

Attached is a fix for the max fids test. It seems like someone made
some cut-n-paste mistakes, because it should not have been a
multi_test.

I also simplified the code a bit.

Attached. Can someone review and push to autobuild please?
