success - eventually

running debian 6. downloaded via git and then compiled.
only had one dependency problem with the make install (afraid i can't 
remember what it was now).
biggest issue was enabling posix acl. had to reboot and lost 180 days of 
uptime...oh well.
was then getting /etc/printcap not found errors. added

printcap name = /dev/null
load printers = no
printing = bsd

to smb.conf and all seems ok.
great work on the software and the wiki...thanks.
