I think it shouldn't be too difficult with libarchive. A potential
minus is it will require more build-time dependencies (zlib for
instance), don't know if that's a problem. libarchive can directly use
command line tools but it's slower.

Noted. If I add support for other formats,  I'll also write the
corresponding tests.
