[Release Planning 4.0] 4.0.0.rc2 preparations

Hey folks,

it takes a few ours to wait for the autobuild, so please attach/review the
patches for 4.0.0rc2 until Sunday, September 30 2012. Otherwise, I cannot
guarantee that they will be included in the release (scheduled for
Tuesday, October 2).
