Hi Steve, can I just point out that you are not trying to compile RC1, 
you are compiling samba 4.1.0pre1.
I would suggest that you download the RC1 tarball from here:

http://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/rc/samba-4.0.0rc1.tar.gz

And then try again.
