Hi,

I think I've got closer in the meantime:

Trying to execute the functions line by line, I've discovered a strange 
behavior:

domain.py has:

from samba.samdb import SamDB

in upgrade.py (run from samba-tool)

ldb=SamDB(...

generates global name 'SamDB' is not defined

so I'll try including it in upgrade.py as well.
