Is there an equivalent to "username map"?

One of the things I was able to do in Samba3 was to create a "username map"
which would map our newer login name standard of <first>.<last> to the old
login name, which tended to be first name, first initial/last name, or
whatever the admin felt like whenever he added the user...
I'm running the samba3upgrade tool, and noticed that this map didn't figure
into the mix. I wasn't too surprised by that, but when I tried to manually
enter the <first>.<last> name in as a login name through AD Users and
Computers, I couldn't seem to get it to work there either. What am I
missing??? Is there any convenient way to incorporate this into the
upgrade, or at least to script it through the samba-tool?
