What people who are often building Samba use on Linux to start smbd etc?

Hi folks,

Do those of you who are often building Samba on Linux and installing
it directly out of the source tree use any init scripts etc to start
Samba?

I currently start smbd manually from /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd but do
the following before that:

       export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/samba/lib/

This seems a bit too painful for non hardcore people.

What is the better approach? I hunted around for a script in the
source tree, but couldn't find one.

I guess I could hack the /etc/init.d/smb script provide by the Fedora
RPMs I have installed.
