./configure generates 'command not found' errors

Im trying to compile on a Linux 2.6 kernel (Fedora release 14
(Laughlin)), running on (VMware virtualized) 32 bit Intel. Ive been
getting similar results with both samba3 and samba4, but since samba4
appears to be 'alpha' quality, perhaps I should (first) focus on
samba3 here. The attached config.log is from running
'./configure.developer' using the samba-3.5.8 sources tarball.
