Thanks for ur mail but we are not using GPFS cluster these are just NFS shares for sharing unix data on windows desktops.

Are you running Samba on a GPFS cluster with the GPFS vfs by any
chance? There is a bug in the GPFS vfs that has those symptoms if you
store the DOS attributes in XATTRs ... it is fixed in 3.5.9 I believe
but still exists up to 3.5.8 (I think).
