Samba on RHEL 5.4 opens read only msoffice docs

Hello Support

We are facing this strange issue of Samba running on RHEL 5 update 4 that any ms word/excel doc opens as read
only mode(pop-up says it is locked for reading by another user whereas that is not the case) and also the performance is too slow.
It was previously working fine on RHEL update 8.

Appreciate ur help in giving the possible direction for solution.
