   Hello samba developers,

As many of you may have know(I know buy reading this list) ,in the past,  an Elektra developer tried to git samba Elektrified and it was rejected.  From what I read and understand it was because Elektra broke samba config(it did not leave the config file un-touch), it had no way to keep backward compatibility of the current way samba loaded it's configuration.

This I believe this has been fixed in Elektra-8.0-miles4 which you can git from git With the command

git clone git://www.markus-raab.org/git/elektra

I what to try to git Elektra in samba again, but to do this i have to figure out all the reason it fail last time so it lead me two these 3 question.

1.)  Was Elektra break the config the only  problem?

2.)   What else need 2 be fixed  ?

3.)   What feature would you like to see in elekrea-8.0_mile4 ?(this question is need to increase it likely hood to be accepted.)

Any help on answering these question wound greatly help me in my effort and greatly be appreciated on my endeavor in getting samba elekified.

My current plan it is write (with the possible help of Marcus)  a custom backend witch would read samba config.

   Note:

I try to never remove functionality or change the way people do things. I try to just add new feature please keep this in mind(and feel free to tell me if you feel i do other wise) when reading my post.  It is a common cause of confuse for many people to think I trying to delete the old way’s of doing thing when I try to just extend them.

In this case I want to add these 2 new feature to samba an do nothing else two the current way samba  handles it's config .
1.) a global config api with the help of Elektra-8.0(if you don’t like Elektra-8.0 please tell me what need to be fixed so i can work on making it to your likings)

2.) samba be able to store it setting in multiple config formats.

Thank again for any reply.
