RESOLVED: Latest Git does not compile on Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS x64

Thanks Michael for the hint. Turns out for some reason my repository got 
corrupt. The git clean did the trick. Sorry all for the false alarm. 
Now, on to testing .....
