for the current status. I've added a little test checking
that sids-to-unix-ids returns the same as the individual
calls. This does not cover the full range though.

Probably too late for such a significant change given we
have another 3.6 pre-release in the meantime, but for
distros interested in this change I have ported the change
to 3.6, accessible under

If someone has time, I would appreciate review.
