Problems building the Debian package for 3.5.3

I actually fixed my problem. It only needed to re-run autoconf *after*
applying our autoconf.patch, then regenerate autoconf.patch.

What lead me to not do it was that our autoconf.patch was indeed
applying cleanly which is generally a sign that I do *not* need to
re-run autoconf.

(why we have this autoconf.patch patch is explained in the file's
header)

Thanks to mathieu who mentioned him being able to recompile as he's
not using this autoconf.patch. That was the clue that lead me in the
right direction.
